Whoever is playing Cheetra is doing a thousands times better than the original's lifeless wonder. The rest of the voice, I didn't recognize other than Panthro is played by Kevin Michael Richardson. Jaga played by Corey Burton runs the mystics of the Thunderians. In fact, Lion-O isn't all knowing yet, and he likes to play find old tech. The funny thing there was that the new Lion-O was played by Will Friedle of Batman Beyond fame, and it took me a moment or two to notice. Well, the lizards had to get tech from someone.Īs for the characters, Lion-o is a young and eager prince wanting to impress his father, Claidus played by the original Lion-O, who is more impressed with his adopted brother Tygria. I guess Third Earth is a post apolyptice Earth after cats, lizards, and other animals changed to humanoids. And the Lizards also made a ally of certain red rubbed mummy who I guess is the last rememenant of humanity on Third Earth. Honestly, it was intresting to see that aspect of the two parter that they showed last nights since the Lizards used their status as slaves as well as using a Trojan Horse to undermine the cats who they had been warring with for generations. Wow, that was actually good thinking there on the writers' part.Īnd then as the set pieces are placed on the screen, the Kingdom of Thundera is destroyed by the Lizards with mechs. And the Thunderians keep lizards as slaves. Snarf is reduced to a housecat who does not speak. From the start, the Thundercats are well versed in magic, but they barely have any technology. The writing was good setting up the Thundercats not as aliens to Third Earth, but instead the heads of the most prosperus of several feudal kingdoms of differing spieces. Studio 4C did a remarkable job on the animation since it was so fluid. And I was honestly shocked that it was actually good. So with this bit of hesitation last nght, I watched Thundercats 2011. That and why there was a psychologist on staff with this show. Honestly, the show never made much sense to me, and even when I rewatched it occasionaly on Toonami, I was trying to figure out how anyone conceived this idea. Meaning Mumm-Ra was an undead human maybe. Third Earth according to some sources was actually suppose to be our Earth, but something had happened obviously that had altered it. Yeah, that still makes no sense to me either. Plus, he once disguised himself as King Arthur. Honestly, Mumm-Ra was probably the best part of the show for his sheer enthusiusm that was missing from most of the heroic chracters in the show. Basically, it can be summed up as anthpromorphic cat aliens crashland on some planet called Third Earth, and they fight with a mummy and some mutants. Character designs were detailed, but most of the animation was stiff and reused. The acting was as stiff as board or hammy. The most people remember about Thundercats is the opening and then the fact that the first episode feature full frontal nudity. So last night, I decided to watch Cartoon Network remake of the unremarkable show, Thundercats.
